Drug-Free

It's been a long haul, but yesterday, Paul took his last cyclosporine pill (and all the other "prophylactic" pills against diseases that immunosuppressed patients are vulnerable to). His hematologist has given him the "okay" for now, but his counts will continue to be monitored to make sure that he doesn't have another relapse or that his aplastic anemia morphs into something else more sinister (like leukemia).

Feeling somewhat anti-climactic, as it has been such a series of ups and downs this past year. A year ago, we were anxiously awaiting a hospital bed for Paul to be treated. A year ago, I was dealing with the spectre of being a widow and the children being fatherless if the treatment did not work. A year ago seems like a lifetime ago, and yet seems like only yesterday.

Hurray that my husband is now "drug-free"!
